In one part of The Netherlands the name ‘De Beaufort’ is a familiar name. A large extended family carries this name, the family has roots in France, as the name suggests. Streets have been named after members of this family, for they were mayor of a village of a town, they were important and influential people. Some estates still belong to this family. One of the members of this family was Henriëtte.
In her late seventies she travelled to East Africa. She visited Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Many visitors have been and are still mainly occupied by watching the big five. Henriëtte had a keen eye for people and the way different communities lived and interacted. During her stay in Kenya she stayed on a farm and watched live at this farm from close quarters. Before she set of on her journey she did her research as she shows on the pages of her book.
