review LEOPARDEN

What a wonderful book for young readers!

In 1973 this Danish book received a Dutch bookprize.

The setting is Ethiopia. The main character of the book is a young sheperdboy Tibeso. One day he sees the leopard taking hold of one his animals and run away with it. It causes him a lot of pain to see what happend. He comes from a poor family and to miss one animal from the flock is awful. But what could he do about it?!

He decides to walk to another village, there lives a man who might help him. He is a kind of traditional doctor. Maybe he can give some advice to Tibeso. And then Tibeso moves from one adventure to another. At every corner there are surprising turns.

He is being caught, he escapes, runs away, gets into troubles again, someone tries to kiill him but who is this person? A girl his age helps him to escape. Tibeso helps a blind man when he is out into the streets to beg, in this way he might get to know more about the Leopard. Will they find an answer to all the mysteries.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
