About 2 1/2 years ago I wrote on this blog a small note in Dutch on a fabulous book on Congo, written by a Flemish author, David van Reybrouck. I enjoyed the book very much, even though part of it is a very sad story indeed.
The author was able to write in a very captivating style combining detail and the big picture, focusing on ordinary people who lived through it all.
Now the Washington Post published a review of the English language translation of this book. I do not like to call a book a ‘must’, but this one is highly recommended.
And, just a little note, I prefer the beautiful cover of the Dutch edition!
