back to angola

Angola is an oil-rich country in the south-west of the African continent. Many people have benefitted from the riches that oil has brought to the country. The capital city is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

But there is a great divide, many people still live in poverty. They see riches from afar, hoping to reach that place called ‘richness’, but the journey is long, too long for many.

The wounds of war are still present. A civilwar with an active participation of the South African army. One of those who fought in Angola was the South African Paul Morris. He crossed the border in 1987. Twenty-five yyears later he crosses the border again, on a bike. A bike-tour to find peace, were he first encountered war.

Read about it, read 26 minutes, please take longer when you want to let your thoughts wander to faraway places, to unseen faces, to children maimed, to the rolling of a tube and an armoured vehicle.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
