Jerry Rawlings (1947) is a famous person and name in Ghana politics. He took power in a military turbulent time. Later he was elected president in free elections. He put his mark on the country of his birth.
One of the speakers at the launch of a book on Rawlings credited him with the peaceful attitudes during political transitions that the country now experiences.
In 1999 Rawlings apologized to the Africans living in the diaspora for the African contribution in the transatlantic slavetrade. A contribution that is often overlooked.
