albert camus: the plague

I have to admit it.

I was careless and ignorant.

When I cleared out a few shelves, trying to dispose of books with a non-African touch. I did not recognize the writer and the book as having an African touch. So I took the book and put it in a box and gave the box (with many more books) away.

Now I realise that Albert Camus and his book ‘La Pest’ (in an English translation) do have an African touch, an enormous touch. An Algerian touch and topic. When I come across this book in a secondhand bookshop or a charity-shop I will surely take it of the shelf and pay at the counter.

The Guardian has an article on Camus and his pest.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
