mamokgethi phakeng: ‘language is political’

Language is an important vehicle for books (what an understatement! ;).

The South African professor Mamokgethi Phakeng gave a speech in The Netherlands on the use of language and the political implications. This is very relevant in the situation of South Africa. English is one of the official languages in South Africa, but is it pushing aside other language? What is the future role of the Afrikaner language?

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
