six écrivains

What is free speech?

Is it the right of every citizen to speak his or her mind? (within the confines of the law or regardless the law?)

Is it a duty ?

What about the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, that was attacked earlier this year? The PEN American Center has decided to award the editors of this magazine. Tomorrow a ceremony will be held, but not everyone will be present.

Six co-hosts will be absent, among them Teju Cole and Taiye Selasi. The Congo-born writer Alain Mabanckou has a different opinion. He will be there. I do not know if Alain agrees or disagrees with the ‘French arrogance’ mentioned in the letter by the six.

Here is an opinion, from the country of Charlie Hebdo.

Le 7 janvier, 12 personnes, dont 5 dessinateurs, ont été tuées dans l'attaque contre Charlie Hebdo.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
