vlaamse schrijver jef geeraerts

The Belgian writer Jef Geeraerts (1930) has passed away. In his younger years Geeraerts worked as a colonial civil servant in the Belgian colony Congo. He left in 1960 but the country never left him. Many of his books have a clear connection with his experience in those younger years in Congo, I can mention his books titled Gangreen 1 and Gangreen 2. Only in his later years did he return to Congo, together with another writer, Erwin Mortier. At first Geeraerts told this writer Congo was ‘dead’ in him, but later on he changed his opinion.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
