mapping the mind of a joburg flaneur

The South African writer Mark Gevisser tells about his latest book. This one is on the city of Johannesburg. He wanders through the streets and district and history of this immense town. It struck me when he related in this interview about his private history linked to the country of  Lithuania. 97% of the Jews of this Baltic country were wiped out during the Holocaust. And when Gevisser went to his roots he even did find some traces of his ancestors. It was good to be reminded of that, for so much of the cruelties inflicted upon the Jews during those years tend to be forgotten.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
