Literary icon, Buchi Emecheta, dies at 72

In the year 2005 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE). It was a reward for her contribution to her manifold activities in Britain and abroad. Yesterday the Nigeria-born writer Buchi Emecheta passed away. She wrote many novels that gained a worldwide readership. Themes in her books were women in a patriarchal society and the adaptations to a different world in which you could feel a secondclass citizen (she moved to Britain in 1960).
