The name of David Maraga must be one of the most famous names in present-day Kenya. This not because he received a large book donation from the World Bank, but it is for another reason. He is the Chief Justice and leading the Supreme Court of Kenya (SCOK). This Court recently gave the majority decision that the presidential elections were null and void and a new election should be held. Well, not everyone was pleased by this verdict. President Uhuru Kenyatta called the judges of of the SCOK a bunch of crooks. Not everyone has a respectful way of dealing with court verdicts.
The Chief Justice has now received law books in all kind of forms. He said that these books are very welcome for many judges have to deal with courtcases dealing with the election results, for there were also elections for other offices. And ofcourse there will be some who will say that now the courts in Kenya are influenced by outside powers.
