Thirty years ago the famous writer James Baldwin passed away. For nearly two decades Baldwin lived at the Cote d’Azur (France) in a small village named Saint-Paul de Vence. A French organisation runs the house where Baldwin lived and worked. The organisation is called ‘Les Amis de la Maison Baldwin‘. The organization now has started a residence programma (for one month) for an emerging writer. 124 people applied for the opportunity to work for one month in the former house of James Baldwin. Ten people reached the final stage.
One of them is the Kenyan writer Kiprop Kimutai. Kiprop (the one who was born during the rains) did not get the month-in-residence. Maybe there is another house for him, somewhere else, maybe in the Kerio Valley.
