Yaounde International Book Fair: reawakening the reading culture

Responsive imageTo organize an international book fair is quite an undertaking. In Yaoundé the capital of Cameroon, a fair has got underway. Edition number 3. In this article you will read more about it. The fair was opened by the minister of arts and culture. This is not the only political edge to the fair, for the theme is “the book, an instrument of consolidation of peace and unity”. Noting the political situation in the country this is a very apt theme. At the same time I wonder what will happen. Do writers now have to write in accordance with the will of those in power in order to keep their peace and their unity?
Let writers do their job.
Let politicians do their job.
Another political edge: the patron is the Cameroonian president.

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.
