Schools need books, because students need books. This rings true for The Gambia as well. The Rotary Club of the capital city Banjul has donated over 40,000 books to schools. These books are not paid for by the Banjul Rotary, but are a gift from citizens in the United States of America and Canada.
Some writers take ages to launch a book. This Gambian writer, Janet Badjan – Young, decided to launch two books at one event. One book is on the beautiful instrument ‘ kora’ .
The writers in Gambia who have been associated have decided to celebrate the day of World Book and Copyright. This is a day set aside by the international body UNESCO. The Gambian writers want to join it as they see the importance of it.
It is a small country on the westcoast of Africa. The literary achievemnets of this Gambia are not widely known. There is a Writers’ Association, though. And they will celebrate.
